Note on Local State Statutes

This page is designed to provide researchers with information about higher education statutes in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.  Researchers seeking information about higher education statutes from other jurisdictions should look to their desired jurisdiction's state code for relevant statutes and guidance.  Similarly, researchers seeking information about local higher education laws and regulations should consult the appropriate local codes.

Washington, D.C.

Statutes

Title 38 of the D.C. Code concerns "Educational Institutions."  Many of the subtitles outline the District's higher education laws.  Below, researchers will find a compilation of some higher education statutes from the District.  (Note: This listing in not exhaustive but, instead, demonstrates the breadth of the D.C. higher education statutes.)

  • Higher Education Financial Assistance: D.C. Code §§ 38-2731 to -2734 (2013).
  • Education Licensure Commission: D.C. Code §§ 38-1301 to -1313 (2013).
  • Nurses Training Corps.: D.C. Code §§ 38-1501 to -1503 (2013).
  • Adult Technical Career Training : D.C. Code §§ 38-1011.01 to -1011.05 (2013).

Regulations

Title 8 of the D.C. Municipal Regulations concerns higher education in the District.  Title 8 contains two Subtitles: Subtitle A, which sets for the regulations governing the University of the District of Columbia's School of Law, and Subtitle B, which outlines the regulations governing the University of the District of Columbia.
