Faculty Services @ Pence Law Library

Reference, Research & Instructional Services

Please feel free to call, email reference@wcl.american.edu and visit us in person. We would be happy to give you a tour of Pence Law Library and acquaint you with everything we have to offer. We’d also like to know of and assist with your research interests. And we can assist you with access to the full range of resources provided by both the Pence Law Library and the Bender Library

Please see the Reference Services page for contacts and hours.

Request Articles, Books, Primary Materials, etc.

We will obtain and deliver materials to faculty upon request. Faculty can request materials either through the catalog, through the WorldCat catalog or by emailing us at reference@wcl.american.edu or contacting your liaison. If a title isn’t accessible at the library, we will attempt to get it  from  interlibrary loan. We can coordinate large photocopying or scanning requests with FASS or research assistants.

We can check library materials out to you and route them to your office. Please contact your library liaison for assistance. See Borrowing Books for additional details.

Journal Routing

We will route journals directly to you. Please let your liaison know which journals you would like to receive at your office, or which electronic tables of contents you would like sent to your email address

Library Liaison Program

Full-time and visiting faculty and WCL programs and offices are assigned a library liaison as a point of contact for research projects, including locating materials and providing training and guidance for research assistants, obtaining text books, placing materials on course reserve, and providing research instruction workshops for students in upper level courses. Our goal  is to match every faculty member with an individual librarian who can coordinate access to library services.

If you’re not sure who your library liaison is, please contact Ripple Weistling, Faculty Services librarian, at rweistling@wcl.american.edu; 202.274.4382.

Research & Database Training

We can visit you in your office to help you access resources. We can show you how to access resources from off campus through the WCL proxy server.

Research Assistants

Pence Law Library offers a variety of services to law faculty research assistants including proxy borrowing for faculty, training and other research support.

The library provides training for all new research assistants in early June. We’re happy to provide additional instruction and support to your research assistants at any time. Please contact your library liaison for assistance.
