Federal Legislative History: Bill Tracking

Bill Tracking Sites and Summaries

Bill tracking tools allow a user to track the progress of a bill or resolution, as it is making its way through the legislative process.  Bill tracking looks forward, rather than backward, as with legislative history research.

Lobbyists and other issue advocates track bills in which they are interested, often to influence the process at each stage.  Bill tracking sites and services may allow a user to set up automatic tracking for a bill, which will notify the user of any action that may affect the bill.

A final bill tracking report or summary provides a chronological account of a bill's progress at each step, usually with links to documents produced at each stage.
